Excitement filled in TA Mwambo Chaweza area as ArtGlo lauched the planting of 1,250 tree seedlings to help build resilience against climatic shocks and restore the area’s vegetative cover. At the launch, ArtGlo and the area’s youth climate champions planted 250 trees at Makina Health Centre to shield the facility from strong winds.
Village Headman Naphome shared his joy: “This initiative is restoring the vegetative cover we’ve lost. I’m grateful to ArtGlo for bringing back tree species that had disappeared from our area.”
Local youth champion Steve Maulidi emphasized the project’s impact: “These trees will conserve soil, as this area is prone to flooding. I’m committed to ensuring they thrive!”
“This is just the start,” said Binuel Phale, ArtGlo’s Youth and Community Engagement Assistant. “Our goal is to restore vegetative cover in flood-prone areas.”
This initiative is part of the Art for Nthaka Yathu Project, under ArtGlo’s Climate Justice Programme, which empowers youth to lead innovative solutions to climate change challenges in their communities.
