Building on earlier regional screenings with the Eastern Region Police and university students, ArtGlo hosted a national-level exclusive film screening and dialogue at the Malawi National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe on the 12th of February 2026.
The engagement, facilitated with support from Home Storytellers and the Big Heart Foundation, marked a step toward strengthening institutional understanding and collaboration on refugee welfare and inclusion.
We Name Ourselves, which features young poets from Dzaleka Refugee Camp, was screened to spark reflection on the lived experiences of refugees and the role of institutions in supporting them.
During the dialogue, Superintendent Alfred Chimthere, Deputy National Public Relations Officer for the Malawi Police Service, noted:
“This engagement has helped us to better understand the realities refugees face beyond statistics and reports. As police officers, it is our responsibility to uphold the law while also protecting human rights.”
The screening and discussion build on ArtGlo’s ongoing work using participatory arts to elevate marginalised voices and inspire policy-relevant dialogue across communities and institutions in Malawi.
